About

Formsma Piano

After high school, I completed two years of college engineering studies, and a year of music studies before entering the piano service field. I worked part time with my father, Robert Formsma, who was a piano technician and a member of the Piano Technicians Guild. After my dad’s death in 1999, I decided to work full time as a piano technician, and took over his business.

I received further training and shop experience from Leonard Gustafson, a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) in the Memphis area. I was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild from 2000-2021, and achieved the RPT certification in 2008. (Why I am no longer in the PTG.)

Even though I am no longer a member of the PTG, I still hold myself to the general principles of their Code of Ethics. (Although my Christian ethics are higher than those of the PTG.) My aim is always the same as it always has been: the very best of my ability. That standard of excellence will never be lessened.

Code of Ethics

  • I will promote good will towards my profession and towards the music industry.

John Formsma

I am 51 years old, married with three sons. I am a member of Christ Church in New Albany, MS.

I enjoy a variety of things in this fascinating world God has created. My non-musical current interests are bicycling, exercise, and nutrition (especially the low-carb or ketogenic diet), the sciences, mathematics, and a little philosophy and history. I also enjoy playing backgammon.

I also have begun reading and producing audiobooks of Reformed Christian books. That website can be found here.
